Reopening of the Château d’Hardelot: Bovis Fine Art mobilized for the transfer and reinstallation of artworks
In preparation for the reopening of the Château d’Hardelot in Condette (Pas-de-Calais, France), Bovis Fine Art was commissioned from June 2 to 6, 2025, to carry out the complete transfer and reinstallation of the site’s restored art collections.
This delicate operation required the full expertise of our teams specialized in the transportation, handling, and installation of artworks, in order to return 84 pieces – paintings, sculptures, furniture, and decorative art objects – to their original locations within the château’s rooms.
A full-scale art relocation operation
The works came from two sources: some were stored at the Boulogne-sur-Mer Museum, while others remained on-site at the château.
Our services included:
- Tailored packing of each artwork according to its specific nature,
- Secure transport in climate-controlled Fine Art trucks (20 and 35 m³),
- Transfer of pieces from the temporary exhibition hall to the château’s historic rooms,
- Careful installation of paintings using hanging systems adapted to the building’s constraints.
The entire operation was carried out in close coordination with the château’s teams and in strict compliance with museum standards. Each day followed a detailed schedule, guiding our interventions piece by piece to ensure a smooth and risk-free reinstallation.
Inter-agency synergy
This project brought together the expertise of our teams from Bovis Fine Art Île-de-France (91) and Bovis Fine Art Lille (59), including one experienced foreman and three specialist art handlers. Site-specific equipment was also deployed: a Layher scaffold tower with jib, pallet trucks, Isorel panels, trolleys, and paraffin-coated boards.
