September 28, 2024: World Maritime Day
On the occasion of World Maritime Day, Bovis Fine Art highlights its expertise in the maritime field. For over 47 years, our group has been a recognized leader in the handling, transportation, and preservation of artworks and valuable objects. Today, we wish to share our know-how in handling historic boats, decorating yachts, and the international maritime transport of works of art.
Handling Historic Boats
Bovis Fine Art demonstrates exceptional expertise in the handling and transportation of historic boats, as shown by the transfer of the Emperor’s Canoe. This historical masterpiece, with its imposing size and great fragility, required a high level of technical expertise and specialized equipment to ensure its safe handling. The Bovis Fine Art teams meticulously orchestrated its transport from Paris to Brest, ensuring optimal protection at every stage. Upon its arrival at the Ateliers des Capucins in Brest, our teams skillfully lifted the canoe using two crane arms and installed the restored piece on its base. This achievement perfectly illustrates Bovis Fine Art’s commitment to the preservation and transportation of maritime heritage treasures.
Yacht Decoration
Bovis Fine Art is an expert in the installation of artworks on yachts. This service requires particular attention to the protection of the environment, a crucial concern in such settings. Yachts are luxurious and sophisticated spaces that demand extreme precautions to avoid any damage. Care must be taken not only with the artworks but also with the delicate surfaces of the vessel. Bovis Fine Art’s teams are trained to work with the utmost care, using specific protective equipment to preserve the yacht’s floors, walls, and interior fittings. Every step of the installation is meticulously planned to ensure a flawless and impact-free process, respecting the integrity of the space while securely installing the artworks, even in the most confined and complex areas.
International Art Transport by Sea Freight
The international transport of artworks by sea freight is one of Bovis Fine Art’s specialties, particularly for the relocation of monumental sculptures. Thanks to our expertise, Bovis Fine Art ensures the packaging, handling, and transport of these large-scale works under optimal safety conditions. Our experts select the most suitable type of maritime container for the artworks to be transported. The Bovis Fine Art teams coordinate all logistical operations, from loading to delivery at the destination, providing a tailor-made service. Thanks to our know-how, even the heaviest and most voluminous pieces can travel internationally with ease.
Relocation of the Musée de la Marine
On World Maritime Day, we must also mention the relocation of the Musée de la Marine’s collections in Paris. In November 2023, the Musée de la Marine at the Palais de Chaillot reopened its doors after more than six years of renovation work, thanks to the turnkey expertise of Bovis Fine Art. Our teams manufactured custom-made crates, packed the artworks, transported the collections to storage, and proceeded with their reinstallation before the museum’s reopening. We faced significant architectural challenges, such as opening the museum’s facade to handle large-scale models. With this collection transfer, Bovis Fine Art once again demonstrated its unmatched expertise in museum relocation.
On this World Maritime Day, Bovis Fine Art reaffirms its commitment to providing exceptional services, contributing to the preservation and enhancement of maritime heritage.
